Islamicate Binding
A variety of structures and local traditions embody Islamicate bookbinding. There is a wide range of development in technique and material over the centuries. Binding techniques from this structure below have been in use since the 13th century.
These models were inspired by a handout by Yasmeen Khan.
Key Features (exceptions apply)

Two-part cover attached with overlapping leather at spine

Back cover has pentagonal envelope flap that sits under the front cover

No squares

Unsupported link stitch sewing (usually 2 sewing stations)

Primary endband sewn over leather core and through every section

Secondary v-shape chevron endband over primary (vertical or diagonal stripes also found)

Textile or leather (adhered grain to spine) spine lining
- Leather tabs (fringed tabs more common with East Asian volumes)
- Vegetal, rather than animal adhesives are more common
