Long and Link Stitch
Long and link stitch bindings are non-adhesive bindings. The process involves directly sewing sections to the cover. The technique originated in medieval Germany, typically for limp parchment bindings. The bindings were generally for blank books and the simple structure meant that this was not just a technique performed by bookbinders but rather by everyday persons as well. There is endless room for variation with these structures.
These models were inspired by Keith Smith's 1-2-&3-Section Sewings: Non-Adhesive Binding Volume II. The long stitch model was made in a workshop taught by Zoë Webb at the University of Iowa.
